The diabetic clinic runs all day Tuesday and from 11:00 until 12:30pm on a Friday. You will be invited to attend the clinic when your review is due. You will usually be seen by Janice Spence, Stephanie McLeary or Andrea Graham or the hospital diabetic specialist nurse Anna Eden.
During the appointment we will review your symptoms, medication and perform a blood test. Whether you have recently been diagnosed, or have lived with diabetes for some time, we are here to help you adapt to living with diabetes, and minimise any impact that it might have on your life.
Diabetes mellitus occurs when the level of sugar in the blood becomes higher than normal. Insulin is a hormone that is made by the pancreas gland. If it is either not made in sufficient quantities or is not able to work properly on the body’s cells, diabetes may result. There are two main types of diabetes mellitus, insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.
